Wild Oats Wild Oats
(Uvularia sessilifolia)
I have always known this wildflower as sessile bellwort.  Regardless of its name, wild oats are another of Iowa's wildflowers that sometimes require effort to locate.  Many of these plants that I have found have a cream-colored flower, not yellow.  Also, the drooping nature of the blossom  sometimes causes it to be hidden by the plant's leaves.  Field guides state that wild oats are common in rich woods.  I can't say I have been lucky enough to find many of them.  Some timbered areas do contain more than others.
