Spiderwort Spiderwort
(Tradescantia virginiana)
Splashs of deep, rich blue decorate the borders of many thickets, roadways, and backyards when the spiderwort is blooming.  My field guide indicates that the flowers open only in the morning and then wilt.  I'm not sure I agree since I have observed the plant flowering later in the day.  This plant begins blooming in late May and continues for several months.
