Swamp Buttercup Swamp Buttercup
(Ranunculus septentrionalis)
The flowering of the swamp buttercup has always been a reminder for me that the ladyslippers will soon be flowering.  I find swamp buttercups (also known as marsh buttercups) in moist to wet thickets.  Mosquitos may use the flowering of the swamp  buttercups as a reminder to begin attacking humans in droves.
