Prairie Smoke/Grandfather's Whiskers Prairie Smoke
(Geum triflorum)
I know of two locations in Northeast Iowa where prairie smoke (aka grandfather's whiskers) grows.  Both places are clearly evident to passing motorists -- if they are looking for it.  The feathery heads of the plants blow lazily in the wind as the days begin their dramatic summer warm-up.
