Marsh Marigold Marsh Marigold
(Caltha palustris)
For years my grandfather would ask me if I had seen the "cowslips" growing in a nearby ditch.  My response was always "no, I didn't see any."  Of course I hadn't seen cowslips, I was looking at marsh marigolds.  It wasn't until several years and a field guide or two later that I realized he and I were enjoying the same plants.

The appearance of the marsh marigolds is a reminder that ladyslippers will soon be flowering.
