Common Blue Violet Common Blue Violet
(Viola papilionacea)
Many people may not realize there are at least two common species of violets in Northeast Iowa.  We are treated to the colors of the common blue violet and the dog violet.  It is easy to tell the difference by looking at the blossom.  Is it on a stalk of its own?  If so, you have located the common blue violet.  Dog violets share the stalk between the flower and the leaves
