Autumn Milkweed Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca)
It is difficult to name any wildflower that makes a more showy display of its seed dispersal.  Common milkweed, a very common plant in Iowa's roadsides and grassy areas, provide a stunning display when backlit by a setting autumn sun.

Common milkweed are the same plants that fed the monarch butterfly caterpillars only a few months ago.  Common milkweed certainly a useful plant.
