Thimbleweed Thimbleweed
(Anemone virginiana)
My introduction to the thimbleweed was a bit unusual.  I found this plant that looked like a thimbleweed, at least as much as the field guides explained, except that it was shorter.  Only after a year or two did I realize that the plant I was wondering about was in fact a thimbleweed, it had just been mowed short early in the growing season.  "Wild" untrimmmed versions do have a tall stem.
