Prairie False Indigo  Prairie False Indigo
         (Baptisia leucantha)
By mid-June, most of Iowa's wildflowers have already reached the peak of their colorful displays.  It is also a time when the biggest and brightest plants grab your attention.  Prairie false indigo is one of those plants. 

By late summer, the prairie false indigo's interesting white blossoms will  give way to rich, black seed pods.
