Indian Pipe Indian Pipe
(Monotropa uniflora)
I searched many years before I found indian pipe in Iowa.  The tiny plant was found in an isolated segment of a very rich woodland.

Indian pipe is unique because it lacks the green coloration of chlorophyl.  This plant gains its nutrients from decayed organic material.
