Iowa Wildflowers

No subject captures more attention from nature photographers than the annual explosion of wildflowers.  Spring, summer, or fall, season after season, wildflowers decorate our natural world.  Enjoy the wonders of nature as you browse through this collection of  Iowa wildflower images.

Each of the images included in this collection has a special significance to me.  Countless pleasant memories have been created in pursuit of wildflowers.  Included with each flower is a paragraph or two of thoughts and basic information unique to the plant featured.  I did not include "text book" facts; there are plenty of field guides available for such information.

I have attempted to provide the common name and scientific name of each flower.  However, for many of the species of wildflowers, several subspecies exist.  A scientific name was not included if I was unsure of the specific species.  Feel free to e-mail me any species information you may have or errors in my identification you may have noticed.

Special note for those viewers concerned with details . . .
While photographing wildflowers, my attention is often diverted by the appearance of fungus/mushrooms.  Several varieties of fungus have also been included in this collection.

Click on a season for wildflowers observed at that time.  Each image has a comment describing its prime flowering time in Northeast Iowa.

Section Pages are image intense . . . please be patient while flower photos load.  Thanks!!
